Text: Psalm 9:6-8

Dear Brethren,
MEDITATION
9  The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed,
A refuge in times of trouble.
10  And those who know Your name will put their trust in You;
For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.
Psalm 9:9-10

OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION
A. Historical Importance
1. The LORD
a) The name by which God revealed Himself to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
“God Almighty” Exodus 6:3
b) The name by which God would be known to Israel would be
“LORD” Exodus 6:2-9
2. The significance of this new title
a) It may be seen as the Covenant-Name
b) A Covenant was established with Israel with the LORD
c) Israel is to regard the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as the LORFD
3. Promises given to Israel
a) God would give them the land of Canaan Exodus 6:4
b) He would rescue them from bondage Exodus 6:6
c) He would redeem Israel Exodus 6:6
d) He would Israel as His people Exodus 6:7

e) The name of the LORD was their Guarantee
“I am the LORD” Exodus 6:2, 7, 8
B. In the context of Psalm 9
1. The LORD their God would be their Refuge
a) For those who are oppressed
b) In time of trouble
2. The challenge
a) To know God
b) To believe in Him

C. APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY
1. True knowledge of God must lead to trust in Him
a) Often, there is only “book knowledge”
b) There is little faith
c) Trust is the effective application of faith in the LORD
2. Confidence in the LORD
a) That He would never forsake those who trust in Him
b) Therefore, there must be confidence in our life and ministry
